Isak Froumin Becomes Consulting Editor for UNESCO International Review of Education
The head of the HSE Institute of Education, Professor Isak Froumin, has joined the journal International Review of Education as a consulting editor. David Atchoarena, the publication’s editor-in-chief and the director of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, recently informed the Institute of Education that he was extending this offer.
The journal has existed since 1955 and is considered one of the oldest international publications devoted to the field of education. Several years ago, the journal’s founder, UNESCO, added the subheading Journal of Lifelong Learningto its name. According to David Atchoarena, this was done to “better reflect its focus on adult education, distance learning, informal education, on-the-job training, and other learning methodologies over the course of one’s entire life.’ One of the UNESCO institute’s objectives is to foster education-related knowledge exchange across all regions of the world. This mission is particularly important for developing nations and countries with transition economies.

The panel of consulting editors includes the world’s leading experts in the field of education and currently consists of 25 professors primarily from the U.S., Canada, and China. Isak Froumin is the first member from Russia. The task of the consulting editors is to provide anonymous assessments of individual articles and to participate in discussions on the journal’s editorial policy. A scholar is invited to participate as a consulting editor for one or two four-year terms on the recommendation of other panel members. The scholar’s experience and international standing are taken into account.
